How to Create a Group Chat
Overview
A group chat — called a Crew in Geo-CX — lets you message multiple team members in a single conversation. Use it for team coordination, shift handoffs, or any time you need to reach more than one person at once.
This article covers how to create a crew, add members, and what to expect once the group is created.
For an overview of the chat list and how conversations are organized, see → Chats: Overview and Navigation. To manage members after the group is created, see → Managing Group Members.

How to Create a Group Chat
Open the chat list
From the sidebar, tap Chats.
Tap the new conversation button
Tap the button in the bottom-right corner of the chat list. This is the same button used to start a direct message.
Name the crew
Enter a name for the group in the Crew Name field.
- The name is required — you cannot create the group without one.
- Maximum 25 characters.
Add members
Tap Add Employees to open the member selection. Check the box next to each person you want to add, then tap Done.
- You can select as many members as needed.
- At least one member must be selected.
- Only people assigned to your active project appear in the list.
Tap Create Crew
Tap the Create Crew button at the bottom. The group is created and you are taken directly into the new conversation.

What You See Inside a Group Chat
Once the crew is created, the conversation screen shows:
| Element | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Crew name | The name you chose, shown at the top of the screen |
| See All Members | A tappable link next to the crew name — opens the full member list |
| Message bubbles | Each message shows the sender's name and profile image |
| Input area | Text field, camera shortcut, file attachment button, and send button |
Group chats do not show online status or typing indicators. Those features are only available in direct messages. In a group chat, you will not see a green dot or a "typing..." notice.

Your Role as Creator
When you create a group chat, you are automatically assigned as the group admin. This gives you the ability to add and remove members after the group is created.
Other members join as regular participants — they can send messages but cannot manage the group membership.
For everything you can do as an admin, see → Managing Group Members.
Sending Messages in the Group
Once the crew is created, sending messages works the same as in a direct message. Type in the input field and tap send.
To share photos, videos, or files in the group, see → Sending Messages, Photos, and Files. To notify a specific person in the group, see → Mentioning Someone in a Chat.
Things to Know
The crew name is visible to all members. Choose something clear and recognizable — for example, "Morning Crew Site A" or "Foremen Week 24."
You can create multiple groups with the same members. Unlike direct messages, there is no restriction on creating multiple crews that include the same people. Each group is independent.
Group chats are project-scoped. The group and its members are tied to your active project. If you switch projects, the group will not appear in the new project's chat list.
