Timesheet History: View Activity and Edit History
Overview
Every day card in your timesheet has two history views accessible from the ⋮ menu: View Activity and Update History. These give you a complete record of what was recorded and what was changed — useful for resolving discrepancies and understanding how a timesheet reached its current state.
This article explains the difference between the two views, what each one shows, and when to use each.
For an overview of the timesheet screens and how to access the ⋮ menu, see → Your Timesheet: Weekly View and Daily Breakdown.

The Two History Views
| View Activity | Update History | |
|---|---|---|
| What it shows | The raw punch events recorded during the shift | Manual edits made to the entry after the fact |
| Created by | The app — automatically as you punch in, take lunch, and punch out | Users with manager-level access who edited the entry |
| When it's useful | Verifying exact punch times and shift notes | Checking if and why punch times were changed |
| Available to | All users | All users |
View Activity
View Activity shows the punch event log for a specific day — every action recorded during that shift in chronological order.
Open the day card menu
From the daily breakdown, tap the ⋮ menu on the day card you want to inspect.
Tap View Activity
The activity log opens showing each punch event in order, with the time it was recorded and the note attached to it.

What Each Entry Shows
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Time | The exact time the event was recorded |
| Activity | A description of the event — for example: "Regular punch in", "Lunch break", "Back from lunch", "Punched out" |
When to Use It
- To verify the exact moment a punch-in or punch-out was recorded
- To confirm whether a lunch break was logged
- To check the notes entered at punch-in
Update History
Update History shows a record of every manual edit made to a timesheet entry — who changed it, when, and why.
Open the day card menu
From the daily breakdown, tap the ⋮ menu on the day card you want to inspect.
Tap Update History
The edit history opens showing each recorded edit in reverse chronological order — most recent first.
--[Image: Update History screen showing one or more edit records with editor name, date, and comment]--
What Each Entry Shows
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Date | The calendar date the edit was made |
| Time | The time the edit was saved |
| Updated By | The name of the person who made the edit |
| Comment | The reason provided for the edit |
When to Use It
- To check if punch times were corrected after the fact
- To see who made a change and why
- To review the audit trail before approving or resubmitting a timesheet
Every edit requires a comment. When a manager edits a timesheet entry, they must provide a reason. That reason is stored here permanently. If you see an entry in Update History, there will always be a comment explaining the change. See → How to Edit a Timesheet Entry.
View Activity vs Update History — A Practical Example
Scenario: Your timesheet shows 7 hours worked on Tuesday, but you remember working 9 hours.
Step 1 — Check View Activity. Open View Activity to see the raw punch log. If the punch-out time recorded is earlier than you expected, the issue is in the original punch data — perhaps you forgot to punch out and the system auto-punched you out.
Step 2 — Check Update History. If View Activity shows the correct times but your hours still look wrong, open Update History to see whether a manual edit was made. The comment on the edit will explain what was changed and why.
Things to Know
Both views are available on all timesheet entries — pending, approved, and rejected. You can check history at any stage of the approval process.
Update History is empty until an edit is made. If no manual edits have been made to an entry, Update History will show no records. This is normal — it means the hours shown are exactly as recorded during the shift.
These views are read-only. You cannot make changes from either history screen. To correct a timesheet entry, a user with manager-level access needs to use the Edit option from the same ⋮ menu. See → How to Edit a Timesheet Entry.
