How to Create a Project

Overview

Creating a project in Geo-CX sets up everything your team needs to start working — the customer details, location and geofencing boundaries, schedule, shifts, and holidays. The setup uses a five-step wizard that walks you through each section in order.

This action requires permission. If the + New Project button is not visible on the project list, contact your administrator.

For an overview of the project list and navigation, see → Project Management: Overview.

How to Open the Project Wizard

From the Project Management screen, click + New Project in the top-right corner. The creation wizard opens at Tab 1.

Each tab must be completed before you can advance. Click Next to move forward — the current tab validates before proceeding. Click Back at any time to return to the previous tab.

Tab 1 — Customer Details

This tab captures information about the client this project is being run for.

FieldNotes
Company nameThe client's company name — up to 20 characters
Point of contactThe client's primary contact person — up to 20 characters
AddressStart typing and select from the autocomplete suggestions

Address autocomplete fills City and State automatically. When you select an address from the dropdown, the city and state are populated behind the scenes. You do not need to enter them manually — but you must select from the autocomplete list, not type a freeform address.

Tab 2 — Location

This tab controls whether the project tracks crew location and enforces a geofencing boundary for punch in.

SettingWhat it does
Enable GeolocationTurns on live tracking of punched-in crew members on the project's map view
Geo FencingRestricts punch in to a defined radius around the job site

If you enable Geo Fencing, two additional fields appear:

FieldNotes
Geofencing rangeThe radius in feet around the job site within which punch in is allowed. Minimum: 1 ft
Project locationThe center of the geofenced area — select from the autocomplete. This sets the latitude and longitude used for distance calculations

Geolocation and geofencing are independent. You can enable geolocation tracking without enabling geofencing. Geolocation shows where your crew is on the map — geofencing enforces where they can punch in.

Geofencing range is measured in feet, not meters.

Tab 3 — Project Details

This tab defines the project's core information.

FieldNotes
Project nameUp to 20 characters
StatusActive (project is live) or Complete (project has ended)
Budget ($)Must be greater than 0
TimezoneThe timezone for all shift times and punch records — choose carefully. All time tracking for this project uses this timezone
Start dateThe project's start date
End dateMust be after the start date

The timezone cannot be changed after the fact without affecting all existing time records. Set this to match where the project physically operates.

Tab 4 — Shifts

Shifts define when your team is scheduled to work. Every project needs at least one shift.

FieldNotes
Shift nameA label for the shift — e.g., "Morning Shift", "Night Crew"
Start timeWhen the shift begins — must be earlier than the end time
End timeWhen the shift ends — must be later than the start time
Working daysSelect the days this shift runs — at least one day required
01

Fill in the first shift

A default shift row is already present. Fill in the name, start time, end time, and select the working days.

02

Add more shifts if needed

Click Add Shift to add additional shifts for this project.

  • Maximum 10 shifts per project.
  • Each shift needs its own name, hours, and working days.
03

Click Next

All shifts validate before proceeding. Fix any errors flagged before continuing.

Shifts must be saved before they can be used for team assignment. When you later assign resources or crews from the Team Assignment tab, only shifts that have been saved with the project will appear as options.

Tab 5 — Holidays

This optional tab lets you add project-specific holidays — dates when the project will not operate.

FieldNotes
DateMust be tomorrow or later — past dates and today are not allowed
Holiday nameA label for the holiday — e.g., "Independence Day", "Company Shutdown"
Apply to entire organizationIf toggled on, this holiday applies to all projects across your organization

Click Add Holiday to add each date. Duplicate dates on the same project are not allowed.

Holidays are optional. You can skip this tab and add holidays later by editing the project.

After Creating the Project

When you click Create Project on the final tab, the wizard closes and the project list refreshes. The new project's detail view opens automatically with a banner:

"Project created! Scroll down to assign resources and crews to this project."

This is your cue to set up your team. The Team Assignment tab is now available — use it to assign crews and individual resources to the project and its shifts.

→ See Assigning Resources and Crews to a Project for the next step.

Things to Know

Each tab validates before you can advance. If a required field is missing or invalid, the wizard highlights it and prevents you from moving to the next tab. Fix all errors before clicking Next.

You can go back and adjust any tab before submitting. Click Back at any time — your answers on other tabs are preserved.

Holidays can be added or removed after creation. Open the project with Edit and navigate to the Holidays tab to manage them. See → How to Edit a Project
